Harstad Region
Where nature and history intertwine, the Harstad Region offers a mix of dramatic landscapes and rich culture.
From the summit of Keipen, you have a fantastic view of Andøya, Grytøya, and Kasfjorden. This is probably the peak in the area that offers the best view for the effort.
Grytøya photographed from Ervika in Harstad. The island lies north of Hinnøya, surrounded by Toppsundet to the south, Kvernsundet to the north, Andfjorden to the west, and Vågsfjorden to the east.
Here I am on top of the mountain Keipen, photographing down towards Indre Elgsnes. The settlement was moved in the 1960s, and the remaining houses are now holiday homes.
Beautiful scenery with the midnight sun illuminating Kasfjorden, with the village of Kasfjord on the right. Kasfjord is idyllically located, about 11 kilometers northwest of Harstad's town center.
Everything built eventually breaks down. It’s the way of nature. Here I’ve photographed an old barn on Grytøya, north of Harstad.

What a lovely summer evening! The midnight sun captured from Nupen, one of the best viewpoints for seeing the midnight sun. Nupen is located in Harstad’s neighboring municipality, Kvæfjord.
Elgsnes beach with the beautiful Elgsnes Farm in the background. The farm's history dates back to 1723.
Hay bales on Bjarkøy. Bjarkøy has extensive agricultural land, where cattle and sheep farming dominate. The large boathouse of the Viking chieftain Tore Hund was located just to the left of this field.
22 degrees outside, midnight sun, and calm winds. It must have been quite an experience for the passengers on the cruise ship Vasco Da Gama to pass the islands off Grøtavær while leaving Harstad.
I came across this fantastic old boathouse on Bjarkøy. I love photographing such old buildings. There is so much history embedded in these walls.
Meløyvær is the very definition of the northern archipelago and an undiscovered gem that few know about. Meløyvær is a paradise of small islands with fantastic beaches that you’re sure to love.
Grøtavær is a former fishing village, now home to about 100 residents. Grøtavær faces north but is protected from the open sea by islands with white sandy beaches.
